Fashion design has widely known by the people as one of the applied art. Basic idea of this art is to create a new type of clothes and attires for the high class ladies and gentlemen who need to attend and hold many parties. Therefore, only the people from the wealth family could use the latest design of the attires in a few centuries ago.
Basically, there are three categories of fashion design nowadays. The first one is haute couture, or the exclusive design made of high quality fabric and needs a lot of sewn skills. And it is usually ordered by certain person who has high background in the society. In France, haute couture is protected by law and only some fashion houses which can use this name. The second category is mass market. In this category, the fashion industries only produce the fashion styles which are loved by the people in order to fulfill the demand from the market. There is no exclusivity here since it is a mass production. The last category in the fashion design is ready-to-wear, the combination between the haute couture and mass market design. The clothes are made in less quantity than the mass market products and have lower quality from the haute couture design. This fashion style is presented in a runway when the fashion week is held. |
